DISCOVER THE SOUTH WEST OF FRANCE
AQUITAINE
Aquitaine is a part of France famous for the diversity of its landscapes. Also known for its thousand and one flavours, Aquitaine has both sweet and savoury specialities. It is a true territory of French gastronomy! The region also relies on the production of foie gras poultry, butcher’s animals, charcuterie, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, as well as marine and aquaculture products. Taste its many specialities such as foie gras, duck confit, truffles, sturgeon caviar from Aquitaine, oysters from Bordeaux and cannelés. But what would Aquitaine be without its internationally renowned wines! Appellations such as Médoc, Saint Émilion, Château Margaux are to be discovered and tasted under the precious recommendations of Gallia Aquitania.
Aquitaine will also surprise you with its rich history inherited from the Roman vestiges and the great dukes of the Middle Ages. This region is full of diversity: its prestigious seaside towns on the Atlantic Ocean, its Dune du Pilat – the largest dune in Europe, its many small unique villages, its prehistoric caves, its castles and medieval villages in the Périgord, its unspoilt natural areas, its Bordeaux vineyards or the fine 18th century architecture of Bordeaux – listed as a World Heritage site.

Pays basque
The Basque Country is located between the south of France and the north of Spain. A land of unique traditions, culture and history, it is inhabited by the indigenous Basque people whose local language is spoken by 28% of the population! In summer, enjoy the long sandy beaches, surf the waves of the Atlantic Ocean or go hiking in the sublime mountains of the Pyrenees. In winter, these same mountains offer many accessible ski resorts. Admire the traditional Basque houses and stroll through the famous towns such as the imperial city of Biarritz or Pau and its splendid Bonaguil castle.
Steeped in the flavours of Spain and the traditional tastes of the Pyrenees, this region is brimming with refined and tasty local produce. The small typical villages are classified among the most beautiful in France, like the village of Espelette and its famous chilli pepper. This famous pepper is the pride of the Basques! Red, bright, slightly spicy and full of fruity flavour, it is the basis of many Basque recipes. Close to the coast, the Basque Country offers a wide choice of fish and seafood. Finally, savour its specialities such as Bayonne ham, Landes pastis or Basque cake filled with custard, or more traditionally, with local cherries from Itxassou.
